Hi Robert,

The UNSW Technology Translation Squad (TTS) has successfully recruited two Electrical Engineering Technology Translators to start working on projects from July 2024.

The team will provide up to five free-days of consultation support for start-ups, SMEs and industry players to solve Electrical Engineering technical challenges that these companies may encounter.

This role promises to offer variety and diverse range of electrical engineering skills. Typical activity may include:

• Power system design
• Simulation and modelling of electrical equipment/systems
• Root cause analysis work for electrical system faults

• Hydrogen electrolyser and fuel cell electrical system design
• Electric motor design
• Electric motor drive system design and programming

• Battery energy storage system design
• Sourcing suppliers for electrical equipment
• Electronics and hardware design

• SLD and schematic creation
• Using test and measurement devices
• Protection system design

• Communication network design for power systems
• Renewable energy system design (PV and wind)
• Power converter system design

• Power distribution network and generation design
• Decarbonising or electrifying applications
• PLC programming

This role may allow Technology Translator Squad members to work on high impact activities in their spare time. This could allow members to pursue the following activities:

• Conducting personal electrical engineering research
• Working on large high impact UNSW research projects

• Developing high impact microcredential and short courses
• Attempting to commercialize UNSW technology via a start-up company

• Educating the public via the media on important electrical engineering issues
• Lecturing and educating UNSW students.
