1HEAD OF SCHOOL MEETING

The Head of School invited the EE&T Alumni Ctee for a face to face meeting. Last Friday at 9:30 am for an hour on 6th December.

The talk across the table was light, honest & respectful for a first meet. At the end, all were in phase.

We had 3 apologies, 2nd row (in-spirit) - emergency meeting, shift-work, and a work demand before the weekend.

2DISCUSSED

- Alumni Connect Night event to be planned

- Database for Graduates to evolve - esp. the 'before internet' group

- Endowed Scholarship to continue

- Forty year reunion to tune-in

- History Walk Trail around the building to evolve

- Open Day with Academics, Industry and Graduates to be synchronised

- Real World Understanding mini-talks or posts to start

- Room / Office available for visiting Alumni to the EE&T building

- School Benchmark Areas identified

- School Building tour(s) after renovations to be planned

- Site Tour for Undergraduates to be planned

- Space available for Alumni Events

- Thesis Competition invitations to be sent near event

- Undergraduate outreach program to be initiated

- UNSW Alumni email address space to be investigated

- Thank you Prof. Jinhong Yuan.

3BENCH MARKED AREAS

Strengths: Culture, Supportive Environment, People working together, Laboratories are very good.

To improve: more Machine Learning (AI) needed and more on Embedded Systems.

The Imperial College of London inspectors stayed the whole week in ElecEng while the students were in term for the bench marking accreditation.

Thank you Prof. Jinhong Yuan for sharing privileged information.

4ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Initiated by the Class of 1985.

An "equity scholarship in perpetuity" and to "support a student from a marginalised background to study Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications at UNSW."

UNSW has $95k idling at the moment. Head of School is keen to continue it. An announcement will be made later in the year.

540-year REUNION

With Covid interrupting the 35-year Reunion in 2019 for us, it was phase-locked to the 40-year mark for 2025.

Luke and I previewed the Lounge restaurant on the 11th floor after the mtg. There is talk of it being in September.

Interested in attending? Watch for announcements over the year or contact someone directly for the latest.

6ALUMNI EMAIL SPACE

To be investigated. It's good to have one that runs in a background process. I understand, it references your student number for the account.
